Holker Hall and Gardens

Holker Hall and Gardens

Holker Hall is the home of Lord and Lady Cavendish and is 1 of the best-loved stately homes in Britain and is just a short walk from Bridgelands Cottage and Carree Cottage.

Many of our guests have said that Holker is 1 of the most interested historic houses they have visited and the gardens are spectacular too.

Once a year in June, Holker is home to the huge Holker Festival-‘A Festival celebrating the best of gardens, countryside and food…. set in one of the most perfect landscapes nature can offer’. A really wonderful country show.

Magnificently situated only a short distance from Grange-over-Sands and the expanse of Morecambe Bay. Holker Hall is set in exceptionally beautiful countryside with gardens that merge into parkland framed by the Lakeland Hills.

Holker is at the heart of 17,000 acres of rural Cumbria encompassing a major proportion of the Cartmel Peninsula. The Estate has a long tradition of farming through the craftsmanship of tenant farmers who produce cheese, honey,  Shorthorn Beef, seasonal Venison and game.

The immaculately kept gardens (25 acres in all) are part woodland and part formal garden. These are complimented by the 200-acre ‘natural’ parkland, which is the result of late 18th century planting by Lord George Cavendish. Over generations the family have continued to develop the gardens and they are constantly evolving as new plantings are made or new ideas are born and Lord and Lady Cavendish continue to make changes and additions to these gardens.

You will see the Cavendish name many times throughout the Cartmel valley.
