The Lake District National Park
The Lake District is England’s largest national park and most people agree, the most beautiful national park too. There’s a huge variety of activities available to everyone throughout the Lake District, many of these are listed on the map above.

The Lake District has England’s 5 largest lakes – Windermere, Ullswater, Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater, and Coniston Water. England’s deepest lake is Wast Water, located in the north-west Lake District.
England’s 5 highest mountains are also located in the Lake District, all of which are over 3,000 feet are:- Scafell Pike – 3,209 feet (978m), Scafell – 3,162 feet (964m), Helvellyn – 3,114 feet (950m), Ill Crag at 3068 feet (935m) and Skiddaw – 3,053 feet (931m).
The Lake District does get slightly more rain than some parts of England, but that’s not a bad thing. I love walking in the woods and forests on rainy days and I highly recommend visiting some of our many waterfalls on wet days, for obvious reasons 🙂
If you’d prefer to stay indoors on wet days, there’s also a huge variety of indoor activities located across Cumbria. There’s something for everyone of all ages. I’ve listed some of these indoor activities on the map above and on this page here>>
Cumbria also has over 200 miles of coastline along the Irish Sea, stretching from the vast tidal expanse of Morecambe Bay in the south, to the Solway Firth in the north.
The Cumbrian coast includes sandy beaches, huge sand dunes, tiny fishing villages such as the stunning village of Ravenglass, coastal castles, and traditional seaside towns.
The Lake District really does have something for everyone on every day of the year, in every kind of weather.
