Adventure Holidays in Lake District Cottages

Mountain biking in Grizedale Forest

7th September 2018

The Lake District has long been the destination of choice for couples and families seeking a short break or a family holiday and with some of the finest scenery in the UK, it is easy to see why. Our region includes five of England’s highest mountains hundreds of beautiful rivers, streams, a dramatic coastline and of course spectacular lakes too!

The Lake District countryside is ideal for outdoor activities, whether you are an experienced adventurer or a novice. Our Lake District cottages provide the ideal base for outdoor adventures. There are plenty of walks, trails and hikes suitable for all levels of physical fitness or cycling trails if you prefer two wheels. For the more energetic, mountain climbing and abseiling are also on offer. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner at any of these activities, because qualified tuition is on hand if you need it.

The crystal-clear waters in Cumbria are ideal for water-sports including windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and swimming. If you want more excitement, then you might consider gorge walking or ghyll scrambling. These are tough activities that involve negotiating mountain streams and climbing cascades and sometimes waterfalls. They are not for the faint hearted but you will get to see scenery and places that are otherwise inaccessible, but worth the effort if you want something unique to remember! Our luxury Lake District cottages provide a welcoming warm and relaxing place to return to when you are cold and wet after a hard day climbing up a rocky waterfall.

Choosing 1 of our cottages located close to one of Cumbria’s many beautiful beaches will give you access to Morecambe Bay, just a short walk away from our Cartmel Valley cottages, perfect if you want to combine a day at the beach with a great walk. The west coast of Cumbria is a wonderful location with a mixture of either fine sand or pebble beaches and stunning cliffs. St Bees marks the starting point of the Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk, the first part of which will take you to Fleswick Bay.

After a bracing beach or cliff-top walk, our Lake District cottages provide the cosy and homely accommodation you need to settle down with a nice hot cup of tea in front of a roaring log fire.

If you are a devoted shopaholic, then this region also has much to offer you. Our pet friendly cottages are a great base for a shopping trip that might include everything from craft fairs to traditional high street shops and boutiques. The wide range of independent shops and craft galleries are ideal if you want to buy designer jewellery or art that may make perfect gifts for friends or family.

You can recover from all of this activity with a visit to one of Cumbria’s many day spas for some indulgent pampering that will leave you feeling energised and ready to explore even more of the Lake District and its beautiful scenery.
