We stayed at beautiful Charcoal Cottage for a week with extended family. It was the perfect place and we enjoyed lots of barbecues and family dinners together.

The pictures do not do it justice especially the living room which is fabulous – would highly recommend – The Wilkins family, Harrow, Middlesex

Exquisitely elegant and stylish, yet homely – what’s not to love!

From the first point of contact to the completion of our holiday Simon and his fantastic team are a pleasure to deal with. Very professional but personable.

Charcoal House is a gem of a property that exudes charm and character throughout and is decorated and furnished to an exceptionally high standard, but is still very homely and comfortable.

The sitting room balcony is a wonderful asset to this already amazing house, allowing you to relax and enjoy the sound of the river Crake that it overlooks whilst taking in the splendid view of the ‘Old Man of Coniston’! But if you have an aversion to heights then the south facing garden is a very tranquil place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet with a coffee or maybe a glass of wine – spoilt for choice!

The wonderful country kitchen is downstairs and is fully equipped with every gadget and appliance that you could imagine or need, including the fantastic Aga – I want one!!!

If either elderly or disabled guests were part of a group and the stairs would be a problem then fear not, the house has an adjoining accommodation at ground floor level that can also be rented which is fully equipped and self contained, again to a exceptionally high standard. The house is located at the end of a private drive in an small hamlet about 1/2 a mile from the southern tip of lake Coniston which is a very pleasant walk on a virtually traffic free country lane.

A short and scenic drive in the opposite direction will take you to Coniston itself where there is an abundance of shops and places to eat and of course the lake where you can take a trip on the steam gondola or as we did hire a boat or canoe. A short drive further north takes you to Tarn How which is such a beautiful place to visit and is a very pleasant, easy walk too.

We would highly recommend this exquisite house and the beautiful area to anyone and would definately make a return visit in a heartbeat! – Lynne, Robert, Catherine and Sonny, Barnsley South Yorkshire

We have had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful house. It has everything we needed and more than we were expecting and we look forward to coming back again.

The weather has been fabulous and we can recommend the gondola and the walk to Tarn How. The children loved Grizedale.

Thank you, we will recommend Charcoal House to friends and family. – The Haworths
