Luxury Lake District Cottages are perfect for autumn & winter getaways

A snowy winter scene in the Lake District

9th September 2013

As the nights draw in and the weather turns cooler, picture the wonderful scenery that autumn and winter bring to the English Lake District. Golden leaves falling from the trees, heather and bracken clad fell sides, bonfires, fireworks, quintessential country villages festively decorated for Christmas, snow clad mountains and roaring waterfalls and rivers.

Our Luxury Lake District Cottages provide the ideal place to stay so you can experience these wonderful seasonal sights and activities. The Lake District is well known for its stunning vistas in the summer, but as we head into autumn the changing of the leaves and the autumnal light further enhance the beauty of this spectacular landscape.

The Lake District is a walker’s paradise but you don’t have to walk for miles up England’s highest mountain to enjoy the stunning scenery, the vibrant colours on the trees and the fallen leaves can be enjoyed from the valleys too.

All 5 of our warm and cosy cottages at Holiday Cottages Cumbria have a roaring log fire where you can snuggle up, dim the lights, open a bottle of wine and relax!

if you have a dog that needs a holiday too, our dog friendly cottages in the Lake District are ideal for them as well. After a good walk up the Lakeland fells, pet owners can enjoy sitting in front of the log fire with your happy and contented dog in one of the country’s most beautiful areas.

It isn’t just the autumnal and winter aspects of the Lake District that make for a perfect holiday at this time of year, many of the local delicacies and traditions are too good to miss too. Our cottages are the perfect base for going out and exploring many of the local towns, villages & country markets and festive fairs to sample the wonderful local speciality foods, drink and hospitality.

Grasmere Gingerbread is a perfect complement to the warm colours of the beautiful autumn scenery and 4 of our Lake District Cottages are just a mile away from Cumbria’s favourite village-Cartmel, the home of the famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding. This handmade pudding is perfect for enjoying sat around the log fire in one of our luxury cottages.

Take advantage of all that this stunning area has to offer at this seasonal time of year and book a warm, cosy and relaxing cottage in the Lake District. Short breaks available too!
