Christmas & New Year in the South Lakes

Dickensian Festival in Ulverston

1st November 2019

Christmas & New Year is a great time of year to visit the South Lakes and stay in 1 of our Lake District holiday cottages. There’s a great festive spirit in the air that helps provide that much forgotten ‘Christmas feeling’.

All of our cottages are decorated with Christmas decorations and of course a Christmas tree too. The tree and decorations are usually in place by mid-December and remain until the new year.

Our wonderful local shops offer a tempting selection of fantastic local produce that include artisan bread, cakes, award winning pies. Our fabulous local butchers provide excellent local meat, poultry, hams & bacon and much more.

To finish off (if you have any room left) you can also indulge in the much celebrated Cartmel Sticky Toffee.

Unlike in days gone by, the pubs and restaurants in the South Lakes don’t close in winter.

You can read more about the great pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops in wonderful village of Cartmel here & more about the Coniston area here

Snow at Christmas

Over the last 3 or 4 years we’ve been lucky enough to have at least a little bit of snow over Christmas. The Lake District is so beautiful and picturesque with snow clad mountains and fells and after you’ve had fun enjoying the scenery, shops & pubs, you can then return to your warm and cosy Lake District cottage with the warmth and glow of a real log fire.

We’re very fortunate that all of our cottages are all located just above sea level, therefore none of our guests have ever struggled to get to and from our cottages over the Christmas and winter periods. The vast majority of roads in the Southern Lake District are frequently gritted.

Spending Christmas or New Year in one of our luxury Lake District cottages is definitely hard to beat!
