Christmas and New Year in the Lake District

Christmas in the Lake District

21st November 2023

Christmas & New Year is a magical time of year to visit the Lake District and Cumbria. There’s always a great festive spirit in the Lake District over Christmas and New Year and of course the breathtaking landscape which the Lake District is so famous for.

If you are looking for the perfect place to spend this special time of year with the ones you love, our cosy Lake District cottages with real log fires are the perfect place.

Over the Christmas & New Year period, all of our cottages are decorated with Christmas decorations and of course a Christmas tree too.

Our wonderful local shops offer a fabulous selection of local produce that include artisan bread, cakes, award-winning pies and some of the best meat in the world. Our fabulous local butchers sell excellent locally reared meat, poultry, hams, bacon and much more.

Herdwick lamb is becoming recognised as some of the best lamb in the world. These study native sheep spend most of the year on the Lake District fells and mountains feeding on wild herbs and grass.

Most of you will have heard about the famous Cumberland sausage and many of our wonderful butchers also sell great fell raised beef too.

Cartmel Sticky Toffee pudding is also another world-famous product from Cumbria. You don’t even have to go to Cartmel to get the world’s best sticky toffee pudding, there are plenty of shops around the Lake District that sell it too.

All of the pubs and restaurants in the Lake District are open for most of the Christmas & New Year period, but you’ll need to book ahead to guarantee a table to eat at this wonderful time of year.

A WHITE CHRISTMAS

Over the last few years, we’ve been lucky enough to have at least a little bit of snow over Christmas and New Year. The Lake District is incredibly beautiful, picturesque and breath-taking when the mountains and fells are clad with snow.

After you’ve had fun enjoying the scenery, shops, pubs and restaurants, it’s so relaxing to return to your warm and cosy Lake District cottage with the warmth and ambience of a real log fire.

WINTER ACCESS Snow on Coniston Old Man

We’re very fortunate that all of our cottages are all located just above sea level, therefore none of our guests have struggled to get to and from our cottages over Christmas and wintertime. The vast majority of roads in the south lakes are gritted frequently.

A CHRISTMAS TO REMEMBER

Spending Christmas or New Year in one of our luxury Lake District cottages is definitely hard to beat! When you leave the Lake District, your memories of the Lake District won’t leave you 😀
