NEW RACEDAY FEATURES

If you haven’t been to Cartmel Races for a while, you’ll be amazed at the changes.

The end of June meeting features a live concert at the end of the races with great entertainment. Previous live concerts have included Tom Jones, Simply Red and Jools Holland.

Make sure you book your accommodation early for these race meetings as the traffic jams are huge!!

A new ‘Rogan & Co at Cartmel Races’ Marquee & garden terrace, the ‘1856 Lounge’ with Champagne Bar, Cocktail Bar, and a DJ that plays until 8pm, the ‘Louis Roederer Restaurant’, ‘Party Tents’, ‘Ladies Day’s’, there’s so many new fun packed options!!

Dogs are welcome, picnics are welcome, you can even bring your alcohol, bottles and all. No restrictions here!!

CARTMEL RACES

The racecourse has the 3rd highest average attendance of any race meeting in the UK (after Ascot & Aintree) even though it is 1 of the smallest race courses in Britain.

The original ‘steeplechase’ course is the only racecourse in Britain actually located within a village and this provides the backdrop to a fabulous event for all the family with a funfair, country stalls and a great Lake District atmosphere.

Horse racing enthusiasts and people after a great day out travel from near and far for this great social gathering and the spectacle and atmosphere that provides a great fun day out for everyone. To top it off, this spectacular event is set against the backdrop of the stunning Lake District fells and mountains.

The ‘National Hunt’ jump racing at Cartmel’s sharp and narrow left handed oval course is quite different from other courses. The home straight veers off the course and dissects the oval course to give a thrilling finish for the crowds on either side of the run-in/finish straight. This is unique to Cartmel and is the longest run-in/finish straight in the country at just over 4 undulating and gruelling furlongs.

The steeplechase course has at least 6 fences, sometimes more and also includes an open ditch and a water jump.

CARTMEL SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION

We are proud to rent out Cartmel’s best holiday cottage. Weavers Cottage is a gorgeous 4 bedroomed cottage that sleeps up to 8 people and is located on the edge of the village just 8 minutes short, flat walk to the racecourse.

On the other side of the village we are equally proud to rent out Cartmel Hill, a stunning, large, 5 bedroomed detached house that is located in the hills above the racecourse with truly spectacular views across Morecambe Bay and out to sea.

This amazing house sleeps up to 10 people and is about 15 minutes’ downhill walk to the racecourse.

The locations of Weavers Cottage and Cartmel Hill are close enough for a short walk to the racecourse but  are far enough away to avoid the sounds of the cheering crowds, the funfair and the revellers in the village square that can keep awake any unsuspecting holiday makers that booked to stay in the centre of the village.

CARTMEL VALLEY COTTAGES

Just over a mile away from the racecourse we have 2 luxury holiday cottages in Cark-in-Cartmel that are peacefully located away from the crowds that swell Cartmel on race days.

Bridgelands Cottage sleeps 5 people & Carree Cottage sleeps 6 people. Both cottages are located in a quiet off-road location that’ just a 20 minute walk through the woods to the racecourse. Alternatively, you can jump on the regular shuttle bus that does the 5 minute journey between the 2 villages.
