Be active and inspire others!

12th February 2019

Cumbrian Girls Can link the amazing research, and inspiration from the national This Girl Can campaign to communities across Cumbria.

We are so lucky to have such an amazing county, for some to enjoy on an everyday basis and others to visit frequently or occasionally.

There are so many ways to be active from walking the fells to wild swimming and fitting a few squats or hula hooping in between doing other stuff, the trick is to find something that suits you, and to set realistic goals for yourself.

We love to celebrate active women to inspire others. So this is what women are telling us about being active:

“I go orienteering all over Cumbria. I currently run for Lakeland Orienteering Club, we moved up here to the Lake District 18 months ago and haven’t looked back!

This photo is a selfie I took whilst orienteering at Whinlatter recently, it was a beautiful, but chilly day and was just so nice to be out there almost by myself, using just the map and compass to plan my own route to try and locate as many controls as I could within the time limit.

This is why we moved to Cumbria, and why I am now a Cumbria Girl that can!” – Ali, South Lakes

“For me, and I’m sure many other women out there, life is a fast treadmill and I make sure I take time out.

I love getting out on the fells for a run and thinking about nothing more than where my next step is totally clearing my mind. I know this helps me reduce my stress levels and maintain my wellbeing.” – Kathryn, Workington.

“I have always been a water baby, and the feeling of being on the water is relaxing and thrilling for me plus the enjoyment of being around nature and wildlife. Being active and outdoors helps me feel happier in myself, provides my brain a sense of clarity and being able to switch off from day to day stress in life builds my inner strength and confidence.” – Lisa, North Lakes.

There is a huge variety of ways to get moving, the challenge is to find something that suits you, whether it is a personal challenge, an outdoor adventure, a team sport, an activity class or any sort of work out at home or on holiday, in the garden or the park. Being active provides an opportunity to have your own space, or to spend time with others.

Carree Cottage Reviews

Good morning Simon,

I just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic break in Carree Cottage.  In no small measure, that was due to the excellent pre-arrival service from you and the thorough information pack that you provided.  You obviously put a lot of work into that and it was much appreciated.

We visited many of the places you suggested and had a splendid time.  We walked on most days and hardly took the car out of the garage.  The weather cooperated too!

A very memorable holiday.  We hope to be back to South Lakeland and Carree Cottage again soon.

Many Thanks,

Keith & Annie Andrews, Telford, Shropshire

Weavers Cottages Reviews

From Email

We had a wonderful stay at Weaver’s Cottage with our friends. We spent most of our time relaxing in the beautiful conservatory or walking into the village and trying out all the lovely eateries.

Also did a few day trips to Grange-over-Sands, Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.

The standard of the cottage was excellent with all our needs met and more.  We didn’t use the beautiful kitchen with all its appliances etc. as it was a holiday and cooking was not on our list!

The garden was beautiful and all very spacious with plenty of parking space.

The proximity to the village was great and very handy to walk to.

Our only disappointment was that we left a day too early to see Cliff Richards perform at the race meeting.

5 out of 5 Review on Trip Advisor

“Lovely cottage in a lovely village”

Lovely 4 bed cottage in pretty Cartmel.  Well equipped and spotless.

Comfy beds, modern bathrooms and plenty of parking space. A great base for Cartmel and the south lakes.

A short walk into Cartmel with its amazing Priory and charming racecourse. Plenty of places to eat and drink in the village. We enjoyed the Priory Hotel for simple quality food and The Cavendish for something a bit more adventurous. We will be back – Charles
