Charcoal House, Near Coniston Water, Cumbria

Charcoal House is a gorgeous large country house located just half a mile from the shores of Coniston Water in the heart of the Lake District National Park.

The house was bought in 2016 and was decorated throughout using heritage Farrow & Ball co-ordinating shades and then furnished to a very high standard. We welcomed our first guests to Charcoal House at the end of March 2016.

This traditional stone-built 18th country house is one of the best Lake District holiday cottages you will find.

CHARCOAL HOUSE

Charcoal house is located in a very peaceful off- road location in the tiny hamlet of Low Nibthwaite just ½ a mile from the southern tip of Coniston Water.

The house is south facing as is large sunny cottage garden and there’s off road parking for 4 cars. The house sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms.

For an extra charge of £50 per night, guests can also have access to ‘The Nook’, a self-contained ground floor apartment that occupies half of the ground floor of the house.

The Nook sleeps 2 people bringing the total occupancy to 8 people.

The Nook is only rented to guests renting Charcoal House. Please scroll down the page to ‘The Nook’ for further details.

KITCHEN

The large country style kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need for luxurious, modern living and entertaining including a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, crockery, glasses, cutlery, kitchen equipment & utensils for 8 people.

The twin oven Aga range cooker is left on constantly throughout the year providing lovely ambient warmth and the unbeatable taste of Aga cooking.

The open plan kitchen has a breakfast bar, large dining table and 8 chairs and just off the kitchen is the ‘Snug’ seating area with a sofa and coffee table. This is a great area for the kids to get away on their own whilst the rest of the group relax at the other end of the house in the large sitting room.

The house has 3 bathrooms, 2 in the main house and a further en-suite in The Nook (for an additional charge-see below).

Upstairs you’ll find 3 bedrooms all located off a lovely large landing with a huge skylight that fills the house with natural light.

At the far end of the landing you’ll find the large sitting room. This room is exceptionally spacious and has a huge ‘wow factor’. There’s sofas and chairs for 8 people, a top of the range Samsung Smart TV, a roaring log fire and a large balcony overlooking the River Crake and the Lake District fells.

The balcony is a wonderful place to relax and look out across the river and fells to ‘The Old Man of Coniston’, England’s highest most southerly mountain.

BEDROOMS & BATHROOMS

The 3 large bedrooms are luxuriously furnished with new beds, mattresses and quality wood furniture.

2 bedrooms have king sized beds and the largest bedroom has a super king sized bed that can be unzipped to make twin beds (please let us know at the time of booking if this is your requirement).

The house has 2 good sized bathrooms, 1 with a large walk-in shower and the 2nd bathroom has a roll top, claw foot, free standing bath.

Luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are included in the price along with central heating, electric, hot water and free Wi-Fi.

UTILITY ROOM

The utility room just off the kitchen houses the washing machine, tumble drier, large fridge freezer and an additional sink. This is also a great boot room and drying room.

The Nook is located through a door at the other end of the utility room which is locked if the Nook is not rented by yourselves. The Nook is not rented separately and your privacy is never compromised.

THE GARDEN

The large, south facing cottage garden has a summer house, BBQ and table and chairs for 8 people. The peaceful, secluded garden is a wonderful place to dine ‘al fresco’ or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the English Lake District with the gentle sound of the River Crake in the valley below.

GARAGE

Guests are welcome to make use of the large, secure garage to store bicycles, canoes and other outdoors equipment.

PETS

Well behaved dogs are welcome for a charge of £20 for 1 dog or £30 for 2 dogs. Sorry, but we do not allow more than 2 well behaved dogs.

Non pet owners can rest assured that we spend this extra money on additional cleaning so that non pet owners wouldn’t know a dog has stayed in Charcoal House.

This is a great area for dogs with plenty of walks from the doorstep. Charcoal House is surrounded by mountains, fells, fields, footpaths, woods and riverside walks where your dog can have a great holiday too.

The large enclosed garden has just had new fencing put up so you can all enjoy the garden together.

THE NOOK

The Nook is a large, spacious, ground floor, self-contained apartment and is only rented out to guests renting Charcoal House.

There is an additional charge of £50 per night if you want to rent the Nook expanding the occupancy to 8 people.

The open plan Nook is furnished to the same high, luxury standard as the rest of the house with a king sized bed, a seating area with a sofa, chair, table, flat screen TV and a log fire.

The Nook also has an open plan, fully equipped kitchen and the en-suite bathroom has a power shower, toilet and basin.

French doors open out to the garden and driveway.

Luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are included in the price along with central heating, electric, hot water and free Wi-Fi.

The Nook is not rented out separately. It can only be rented in conjunction with the rest of Charcoal House.

If you would like to make use of The Nook you just need to add this to your booking under ‘Booking Extras’ on our online booking system.

Charcoal House in Low Nibthwaite is the perfect destination for a relaxing, romantic or adventure filled Lake District holiday.

“Fantatsic few days in the Lakes”

Charcoal house was a fantastic base for our break in the lakes, even better than the photographs.

The house is filled with quality furnishing and finishes, with everything you can think of at hand.

The walk into the woods with the dog was a definite highlight.

We would thoroughly recommend the house, all details and information provided were spot on – David Page,  East Cottingwith, Yorkshire

We really enjoyed our stay here in your beautiful cottage.

It is warm cosy and very well fitted out. It is a really good venue for the larger family groups as it is so welcoming as well as quiet and peaceful.

There are lots of things to do here and nice places to visit not too far away as well as good local walks.

The Church House Inn at nearby Torver is well recommended with good food ale and service.

Our daughter loved the low-level sink in the bathroom as she learned how to turn the taps on so she could play in the water. It was a delight to hear her squeal as she would run up and down the hallway.

We had a great week thank you and will definitely be coming back for another lovely family holiday. – Philip, Judith, Meg, Matt & Evie
