CHARCOAL HOUSE, NEAR CONISTON WATER
Charcoal House is a gorgeous large country house located just half a mile from the shores of Coniston Water in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
This traditional stone-built 18th country house is located in a very peaceful off-road location in the tiny hamlet of Low Nibthwaite, just ½ a mile from the southern tip of Coniston Water.
This gorgeous Lake District holiday house and the large sunny cottage garden are south facing.
The house has decorated throughout using heritage Farrow & Ball co-ordinating colours and has been furnished to a very high standard.
The large sitting room is located on the 1st floor to take advantage of the views from the large windows and the balcony.
This is a gorgeous room that is very light and spacious and has a huge ‘wow factor’ with its huge oak beams, thick stone walls and a roaring log fire.
There are sofas and chairs for 8 people, Samsung Smart TV, games console and large book case with various books, maps and some of Simon’s favourite Lake District walks.
The large balcony looks across to the Lake District fells and is a wonderful place to relax with gentle sound of the river Crake below. In the distance you can see ‘The Old Man of Coniston’, England’s highest most southerly mountain.
The large country style kitchen is the quintessential, English country kitchen.
It’s large, light and airy and fully equipped with everything you need if you’re planning on cooking and entertaining.
There’s a 2 oven, double hob electric Aga, a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, crockery, glasses, cutlery, kitchen equipment & utensils for 8 people.
There’s also an extra kitchen in The Nook (see Nook details below) just in case you would rather use a conventional oven for anyone who is not too sure about using the Aga in the main kitchen.
THE DINING AREA & THE ‘SNUG’
The Aga is left on constantly throughout the year providing lovely ambient warmth and the unbeatable taste of Aga cooking.
The open plan kitchen has a large breakfast bar and a large dining table with 8 chairs.
Just off the kitchen and dining area is the ‘Snug’ seating area with a sofa and coffee table. This is a great area for the kids to get away on their own whilst the rest of the group relax at the other end of the house in the large sitting room. It’s also 1 of my favourite places to sit quietly and read a book. It’s got that magical ‘old cottage’ charm to it.
Upstairs you’ll find 3 bedrooms located off the large landing with a large skylight that fills upstairs with lots of natural light.
The 3 large bedrooms are luxuriously furnished with new beds, mattresses and quality wood furniture.
2 bedrooms have king sized beds and the largest bedroom has a super king sized bed that can be unzipped to make twin beds. Please remember to let us know before you arrive if this is your requirement.
Luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are included in the price along with central heating, electric and hot water.
The Nook - included in the price!
Included in the price is ‘The Nook’, a large, spacious, ground floor apartment that is accessed via a lockable door from the utility room next to the kitchen.
The Nook is a huge bonus and provides the 4th bedroom.
The lovely open plan design with French doors that let the light flood, has a seating area with a sofa, flat screen TV, roaring log fire, plenty of oak beams, a king-sized bed, an en-suite shower room with a power shower and a toilet and wash basin.
The Nook used to rented out separately so it has the bonus of having another fully equipped kitchen that you are welcome to use.
The Nook is a great asset, especially if any of your group want to use it as a private annex for a bit more privacy from the rest of the group.
Please note-The Nook is not rented out separately and is part of the price for the whole house.
Charcoal House in Low Nibthwaite is the perfect destination for a relaxing, romantic or adventure filled Lake District holiday.
The Downstairs 'family bathroom'
The house has 3 good sized bathrooms. On the 1st floor the bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The 2nd bathroom is on the ground floor and has a roll top, claw foot, free standing bath. The 3rd bathroom is the en-suite in ‘The Nook’
The utility room just off the kitchen houses the washing machine, tumble drier, large fridge freezer and an additional sink. This is also a great boot room and drying room.
THE GARDEN, GARAGE & PARKING
The large, south facing cottage garden has a lovely summer house, a brick built BBQ, plus a large wooden table and plenty of chairs for 8 people.
The peaceful, secluded garden is a wonderful place to dine ‘al fresco’ or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the English Lake District with the gentle sound of the River Crake in the valley below.
There’s a large wooden garage that can be used for 1 car or to store canoes, boats, bikes, roof boxes etc. Please remember to bring your own padlock for the garage if you want to lock it up.
In between the garden and the house, there’s off-road parking for 4 cars.
Charcoal House is only 155 feet (47 meters) above sea level. It’s very, very rare for us to have snow disruption and we’ve never had anyone that’s not been able to get to the house due to adverse weather.
However, being able to get to Charcoal House in winter gives you a perfect opportunity to drive or walk further north to the higher parts of the Lake District. Hopefully you’ll then get the chance to see the fells and mountains covered in snow and go walking in crisp, white, virgin snow.
Well behaved dogs are welcome for a charge of £20 for 1 dog or £30 for 2 dogs. Sorry, but we do not allow more than 2 dogs.
Non-pet owners can rest assured that we spend this extra money on additional cleaning so that non-pet owners wouldn’t know a dog has stayed in Charcoal House.
This is a great area for dogs with plenty of walks from the doorstep. Charcoal House is surrounded by mountains, fells, fields, footpaths, woods and riverside walks where your dog can have a great holiday too.
The large enclosed garden has had new fencing put up so you can all enjoy the garden together.
