CHARCOAL HOUSE, NEAR CONISTON WATER
Charcoal House is a gorgeous large country house located just half a mile from the shores of Coniston Water in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
This traditional stone-built 18th country house is located in a peaceful off-road location in the hamlet of Low Nibthwaite, half a mile from the southern tip of Coniston Water.
The house has been decorated throughout using heritage Farrow & Ball coordinating colours and has been furnished to a very high standard.

SITTING ROOM
The large sitting room is located on the 1st floor and has large wooden French doors that open out onto the balcony. The balcony is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet.
This is a gorgeous room that is very light and spacious and has a huge ‘wow factor’ with its huge oak beams, thick stone walls and a roaring log fire.
There are sofas and chairs for 8 people, new 55″ LG Smart TV, a games console and a large book case with various books, maps and some of Simon’s favourite Lake District walks.
KITCHEN
The large kitchen is a quintessential, English country-style kitchen. It’s large, light and airy and fully equipped with everything you need if you’re planning on cooking and entertaining.
There’s a 2 oven, double hob electric Aga, a microwave, a Nespresso ‘original’ coffee machine, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, crockery, glasses, cutlery, kitchen equipment & utensils for 8 people.
There’s also an extra kitchen in The Nook (see Nook details below) just in case you would rather use a conventional oven for anyone who is not too sure about using the Aga in the main kitchen.

THE DINING AREA & THE ‘SNUG’
The Aga is left on constantly throughout the year providing lovely ambient warmth and the unbeatable taste of Aga cooking.
The open plan kitchen has a large breakfast bar and a large dining table with 8 chairs.
Just off the kitchen and dining area is the ‘Snug’ seating area with a sofa and coffee table. This is a great area for the kids to get away on their own whilst the rest of the group relax at the other end of the house in the large sitting room. It’s also 1 of my favourite places to sit quietly and read a book. It’s got that magical ‘old cottage’ charm to it.
BEDROOMS
Upstairs you’ll find 3 bedrooms located off the large landing with a large skylight that fills upstairs with lots of natural light.
The 3 large bedrooms are luxuriously furnished with new beds, mattresses and quality wood furniture.
2 bedrooms have king sized beds and the largest bedroom has a super king sized bed that can be unzipped to make twin beds. Please remember to let us know before you arrive if this is your requirement.
Luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels are included in the price along with central heating, electric and hot water.

The Nook

THE NOOK
Included in your stay is ‘The Nook’ — a spacious ground-floor apartment with easy access via the utility room adjacent to the kitchen. The Nook is an integral part of Charcoal House and isn’t rented separately.
The Nook has a lovely open plan design with lots of oak beams and French doors that let the light flood. The lounge area has a sofa, flat screen TV and a log fire. There’s a king-sized bed, an en-suite shower room, toilet and wash basin.
The Nook provides additional living space and flexibility — perfect for larger groups or guests looking for a little extra comfort and privacy during their stay. It’s also great for people with limited mobility as there are no stairs.
BATHROOMS
The house has 3 good sized bathrooms. On the 1st floor the bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The 2nd bathroom is on the ground floor and has a roll top, claw foot, free standing bath. The 3rd bathroom is the en-suite in ‘The Nook’
UTILITY ROOM
The utility room just off the kitchen houses the washing machine, tumble drier, large fridge freezer and an additional sink. This is also a great boot room and drying room.

THE GARDEN, GARAGE & PARKING
The large, peaceful and secluded south facing cottage garden has a lovely summer house, a brick built BBQ, a large wooden table and plenty of chairs for 8 people.
The garden is a wonderful place to dine ‘al fresco’ or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the English Lake District.
There’s a large wooden garage that can be used for 1 car or to store canoes, boats, bikes, roof boxes etc. Please remember to bring your own padlock for the garage if you want to lock it up.
In between the garden and the house, there’s off-road parking for 4 cars.
WINTER ACCESS
Charcoal House is only 155 feet (47 meters) above sea level. It’s very rare for us to have snow disruption and we’ve never had anyone that’s not been able to get to the house due to adverse weather.
However, being able to get to Charcoal House in winter gives you a perfect opportunity to drive or walk further north to the higher parts of the Lake District. Hopefully you’ll then get the chance to see the fells and mountains covered in snow and go walking in crisp, white, virgin snow.

EV Charging
Charcoal House has an electric vehicle EV charger.
The charger is available exclusively for use by guests staying at Charcoal House and has a maximum output of 7.4KW.
A QR code links to a payment page and online payments can be made using most debit and credit cards.
DOGS
We are happy to welcome up to 2 dogs at Charcoal House.
Non pet owners can rest assured that we spend extra time cleaning after dogs have stayed so that non pet owners have no idea a dog has stayed at the house.
The Lake District is a great area for walkers and dog owners with several walks from the doorstep where your dog can enjoy their holiday as much as you.
Almost all of the pubs in the Lake District welcome dogs, as well as many cafes and even most of the lake cruise boats.
Dogs love the Lake District! 🐾
