The Hairy Bikers at Sawmill Cottage

17th April 2025
As I’m sure you’re aware, Dave Myers sadly passed away in February 2024. He will though, live long in the memories of many, many people, especially here in his native homeland of Cumbria.
In October 2021, the BBC first aired the Hairy Bikers series, ‘The Hairy Bikers Go North’.
Whilst filming episode 3, Dave Myers and his best mate Si King stayed at Sawmill Cottage, our gorgeous riverside cottage near Coniston Water. They were filmed by the BBC enjoying their stay, cooking in the kitchen and also having a BBQ in the patio area. with their friends

Later in the program, the ‘Hairy Bikers’ Si and Dave are joined by some of Dave’s Thai friends from Barrow-in-Furness and they enjoy dinner in the garden by the river. It’s a great scenario.
During episode 3, Si and Dave had a go at fishing from the bottom of the garden and Dave joked that he didn’t think anyone had ever caught a fish from the garden of Sawmill Cottage. This was just a joke, as several of our guests have caught brown trout, sea trout and the occasional salmon. Tight lines as they say 🎣
When the Hairy Bikers film crew were filming at Sawmill Cottage, there had been quite a lot of rain that week. Consequently, the river was quite high and flowing much faster than normal. During dry spells, the river is very gentle and many of our guests have enjoyed a swim in the river and some have also canoed or kayaked to Coniston Water.
