Shamrock Cottage is a lovely 19th Century cottage located in the South Lakeland village of Allithwaite in Cumbria and is just 1½ miles from the cobbled streets of Cartmel village with Lake Windermere only a 10 minute drive.

The cottage is furnished and equipped to a high standard and is described by many of our guests as a real ‘home from home’. Shamrock Cottage ideal for couples or for up to 3 people.

Shamrock Cottage is a great cottage for a special, romantic break or a great base for walking and exploring the South Lakes area. The cottage has the added benefit of a wonderful sun deck with panoramic views overlooking open fields and down to the bay. This is an ideal place to sit and relax, for ‘al fresco’ dining and being south facing it is lovely sun trap too.

The cottage is full of charm and character and is regularly decorated and upgraded. The lounge has a large window, stable styled door, traditional cottage style wood panelling on one wall, an oak beamed fireplace and a cast iron log burning stove. There are two comfortable settees, remote control multi channel ‘Freeview’ LCD TV, DVD,  iPhone/ipod docking station, CD player & DAB radio and plenty of books including some good ones about the local area.

The traditional cottage kitchen has hand made wooden kitchen units, Belfast sink, traditional quarry tiled floor, double oven, 4 ring hob, microwave, brand new full sized fridge freezer, dining table and 2 chairs as well as all the utensils, crockery and cookware you’d expect (and maybe a few more too!).

The kitchen door opens onto a small patio area with steps leading up to the wonderful sun deck area. Here you will find a table for two, 2 chairs, a wooden garden bench and stunning views across open fields to Morecambe Bay. Please contact us regarding an ‘access statement’ if you are not sure about the gradient of the steps to access the sun deck.

The cottage has 2 bedrooms and sleeps up to 3 people. Upstairs, the beautifully furnished, newly decorated and refurbished double bedroom has an antique stripped wooden floor, a lovely Victorian mahogany bed, a satin-wood chest of drawers with large mirror, various antiques and a large wardrobe. This room really is as lovely as it looks!

The single bedroom has a wealth of charm and is beautifully furnished with a cast iron single bed and other tastefully chosen cottage style furnishings. Luxury Egyptian cotton bed linen and soft fluffy white towels provided free of charge.

A brand new, full size travel cot and high chair are also provided, free of charge.

The newly decorated and refurbished cottage style bathroom has a full sized bath, powerful shower, wash basin and toilet.

Mains gas central heating is at your control for whenever you want to use it and there is a combi-boiler for instant hot water. Heating, gas, and electric are all included in the price.

Whilst the cottage doesn’t have private parking like our other cottages, there is plenty of parking on the road outside the front of the cottage. None of our guests have ever had a problem parking outside the cottage. There’s no parking restrictions or charges anywhere in the village, apart from on corners or outside the school etc.

All of our holiday cottages are provided with lots of information on the local area, the Lake District and Cumbria with several books, folders, leaflets and our own personal recommendations for places to visit.

We also send all of our guests a detailed list of our favourite pubs, restaurants and places to buy great local food giving you some wonderful inside knowledge and a valuable head start.

Shamrock Cottage is situated in the small, picturesque, unspoilt village of Allithwaite just south of Cartmel and west of Grange-over-Sands. The village has 2 good pubs both serving good food and both being child and dog friendly too. The village also has a post office and convenience store that sells fresh bread and a 5 minute drive to Grange-over-Sands where you will find one of the best bakers and best butchers in the country along with a deli, green grocers and many great local shops too.

The rural train station of Kents Bank is a 5 minute walk away and this is on the Lancaster to Barrow, Lake District Peninsulas line and is one of England’s most scenic railways in England as it snakes its way along the Cumbrian coast. There are plenty of walks from the doorstep from nice easy strolls along the sea front to strenuous fell walking of all distances and complexity.

Dog owners are welcome to bring along their dog(s) for a small charge (£20 for 1 dog, £30 for 2)-just select this option on our on-line booking system at the time of booking. Non pet owners can rest assured that we spend this extra money on additional cleaning so that non pet owners would have no idea a dog has stayed at the cottage.

This is a great area for walkers and dog owners with several walks from the doorstep where your dog can enjoy it’s holiday as much as you.

Further details on our beautiful area can be found here.

A big, massive, thank you to Simon once again for a beautiful stay in your lovely cottage.

This is or fourth visit to Shamrock and each time it gets better. Everything about this place is wonderful, we never want to leave. We had had ten amazing nights here with beautiful weather apart from one day.

Places to go – all dog friendly and child friendly too! We have been to quite a few nice villages and pubs.

Day one: Bardsea Beach, near Ulverston, is definitely worth a visit. The dogs can run free, beautiful streams/pools to paddle in and a lovely ice cream van too.

Day two: Ulverston, walk up to the John Barrow monument. Amazing views at the top. It takes around 45 minutes to walk and is quite easy too.

Day three: We had a drive to Lake Coniston, very picturesque village. A beautiful lake where the dogs and children can paddle. There was lots of parking too.

Day four: Walked to Cartmel from the cottage, about 45 minutes. It was a nice peaceful walk. Royal Oak pub serves delicious food too!

Day five: Visit to Bowness on Windermere. It was a very busy town. Nice walk but too many people, we prefer the quieter villages.

Day six: Back to lovely Ulverston for lots of shopping. Nice gift shops plus there is a Booths supermarket. Here Farmers Arms do nice food and lovely to sit out with a glass of wine. Very friendly.

Day seven: Back to Cartmel to go on the Lakeland Segways. Really good experience riding through Cartmel woods etc. Deffo recommend.

Day eight: The only rainy day we had so it was nice to chill out in the cottage. Very cosy all day with the fire roaring. We recommend having a nice indian from the ‘Aroma’ in Grange. We thought it was gorgeous food. They deliver to the cottage too.

Day nine: Loved today! We drove to Ullswater, about 1 hour 15minutes away, but definitely worth it. We had an amazing walk (three hours) round trip to Aira Force Waterfall. Definitely recommend the dogs loved it too.

To summarise….. wow wow wow!

Once again thank you Simon; excellent service and communication. We are looking forward to the New Year festivities here once again – with love from  – The McKays (and dogs)

A beautiful clean and well-equipped cottage for our first break away as a family.

Perfect size for us and our 11 month old. High chair much appreciated.

First visit to Cartmel – lovely place – very quaint. We ate at the Pheasant Inn and Royal Oak. We also tried the chippy in Flookborough. Much appreciated detailed guide in ‘eating out’ section of information booklet.

Lovely terrace for adults with a good use of space with peaceful and pretty views.

All in all a great stay – will definitely recommend cottage to friends – Gemma, Barry & Lois
