The English lakes are renowned for their rural beauty and inherent romanticism, as demonstrated by the number of poets and artists who have flocked to the area throughout history – for example, The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, famed for their use of natural imagery within romantic settings, was repeatedly drawn to the area.

Imagine the scene of the Lake District cottages ideal – a log fire burning, rain pattering gently across the window panes and the table laden with the remains of a romantic meal. This would be a perfect moment to present a beautiful platinum engagement ring and the sort of gesture and setting that would be hard to decline. Or perhaps you and your potential bride are more of an active pair?  Why not propose from the peak of one of the many mountains in the area, such as Scafell or Helvellyn? Lake District cottages are a great base to reach all of the waters in the region such as Ullswater, Windermere and Derwent Water. These offer a great range of settings for your proposal! Why not head to Coniston Water, for a boating option? You can either rent a rowing boat and head off in search of a secluded spot or if that sounds too energetic, pop on board the steam yacht, Gondola. The Gondola offers a decedent level of Victorian splendour and makes port at the equally beautiful Brantwood House. Previously home to John Ruskin, and as such frequented by the Pre-Raphaelites, the house boasts elegant gardens that would form an evocative setting for a proposal.
